Eyefinity/OfficeMate to Host Free Online Panel Discussion on HITECH Act:
“Stimulus Money: What Do I Need to Know?”

Rancho Cordova, Calif., January 15, 2010—Eyefinity®/OfficeMate® today announced it will host a free, online panel discussion offered on both February 5 and 8, entitled “Stimulus Money: What Do I Need to Know?” Open to both Eyefinity/OfficeMate users and non-users, the panel discussion is designed to demystify the HITECH Act (Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act) and educate eyecare professionals on the requirements they must meet in order to qualify to receive federal stimulus money available to them in 2011.

The panel discussion will provide an overview on the HITECH Act and how implementing electronic medical records (EMR) can benefit eyecare professionals. Other topics include defining “meaningful use,” the financial incentives for eyecare professionals, and the urgency and importance of e-prescribing. A question and answer session will also take place.

“Many eyecare professionals still have questions about the HITECH Act and what steps they need to take to receive the stimulus money available to them,” said Eyefinity/OfficeMate President, Jim McGrann. “Our expert panel will shed light on this critical issue and help eyecare professionals prepare to maximize the financial incentives available to them.”

The panel discussion will feature Jim Tate, president of EMR Advocate LLC., which provides consulting services to EMR vendors, developers and others in the health information technology industry. Tate has supported more than thirty ambulatory and inpatient EMR vendors in their CCHIT (Certification Commission for Health Information Technology) certification projects, and currently serves as a consultant to Eyefinity/OfficeMate. Also featured on the panel are: Lorie Lippiatt, O.D., of the Salem Eyecare Center in Salem Ohio, Kim Castleberry, O.D., of Plano Eye Associates in Plano, Texas, and Ryan Wineinger, O.D., of Wineinger Vision Associates in Shawnee, Kansas.

As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the HITECH Act has appropriated $19.2 billion in federal stimulus funds to accelerate the adoption of certified EMRs. Physicians who demonstrate “meaningful use” (policy makers are currently working to define this term) of certified EMRs can qualify for up to $64,000 in incentive payments through Medicare and Medicaid.
