Q11455 - FAQ: How do I change the computer's default program for viewing and printing exams, auto letters, prescriptions, and eDocuments?

Printed exams, auto-letters, prescriptions, and eDocuments in OfficeMate and ExamWRITER open using the computer's default program for the given file type. For example, if your computer's default program for opening .doc or .rtf files is Microsoft Word, files with those extensions will open in Microsoft Word.

If you want to change the default program for certain file types, you'll need to change that within Windows, not within OfficeMate or ExamWRITER.

  1. Right-click the Windows Start menu.
  2. Select Explore from the contextual menu.
    A Windows Explorer window opens.
  3. Click Tools.
  4. Select Folder Options.
    The Folder Options window opens.
  5. Click the File Types tab.
  6. Select the extension you want to change from the Registered File Types list.
Information about the file extension is displayed in the Details for extension box.
  7. Click Change.
    The Open With window opens.
  8. Select an application from the Programs list.
  9. Select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box if the check box is not selected already.
  10. Click OK to close the Open With window and save your selection.
  11. Click Close.
