Welcome to Spring 2006! As spring blooms, so does OfficeMate Software Solutions. I’m very proud to announce and welcome two new acquisitions to the OfficeMate portfolio of eyecare software business solutions, RLISYS, acquired from Maui Jim, and iPoint, acquired from Optical Innovations. RLISYS has been one of OfficeMate’s leading software competitors for over 21 years. In surveys conducted by Jobson and the AOA over the past few years, RLISYS ranked # 2 and #3 in market share—right behind OfficeMate. We are very pleased to have the outstanding RLISYS team in Peoria, IL, complement our existing team of software professionals at OfficeMate, Delta, and COS. iPoint, the eyecare industry's leading virtual try-on system for frames, lenses, and contacts, is also now an OfficeMate company! OfficeMate is committed to improving your dispensary’s efficiency and profitability and iPoint’s technology offers you the opportunity to achieve both goals. With our acquisition of RLISYS and iPoint, OfficeMate Software Solutions is integrating five top-tier eyecare software companies and our respective team of employees and dedicated clients to form the largest eyecare practice management software entity in the industry with over 9,000 eyecare professionals! OfficeMate Software Solutions, the software division of Marchon Eyewear, is committed to providing solutions to help you operate and grow a successful eyecare business. Today, and more importantly, in the future, technology will be an imperative element of operating your eyecare business. Practice management and electronic health record software will be the “hub” of the practice of the future. OfficeMate intends to create a front-to-back “technology integrated practice,” or TIP, as we call it, for you. TIP will feature OfficeMate’s software suite complemented with other industry technology partners such as VisionWeb, Marco, Topcon, Carl Zeiss Meditec, Eyemaginations, DataHEALTH, 4PatientCare, and others. Keep an eye on our new Web site at www.officemate.net for more TIP updates. OfficeMate Software Solutions is committed to your success and profitability. We clearly understand the “win-win” opportunity available to you, our valued client, and to OfficeMate. As always, the lines of communication remain open and I invite you to communicate with me at ed@officemate.net. In addition to submitting VSP insurance claims, you can also submit private lab orders and Rx orders to Eyefinity through the new OfficeMate VSP interface. You cannot submit government or commercial claims (non-VSP claims) to Eyefinity through the new OfficeMate VSP interface. How it Helps YouThis new interface will save you time and make the task of submitting VSP insurance claims, Rx orders, and private lab orders to Eyefinity easier and less cumbersome. Data entry errors will be reduced and your staff will have more time to care for patients because they will spend less time submitting claim and order information to Eyefinity. What are the Fees? The cost of this new interface includes not only your integration, but also your training. Our OSSU iCoaches will thoroughly train you so that you are able to quickly begin using your new OfficeMate VSP interface. After the new interface is shipped to you, you will be responsible for a prorated annual support fee based upon your existing OfficeMate/ExamWRITER ASMA date. Note: You can receive a 100% refund of your pre-release OfficeMate VSP purchase if you cancel your order before the interface is shipped. After you purchase the OfficeMate VSP interface and begin using it, you will not be charged any OfficeMate transaction fees. There is also no cost to submit VSP-approved private lab orders; however, you will be charged Eyefinity transaction fees when you submit insurance claims, which include

You may have recently been hearing talk about the benefits of virtual try-on technology. Now is a great time to learn more about this technology and take a closer look at iPoint VTO. What is virtual try-on technology and how can your practice benefit from it? OfficeMate’s iPoint VTO uses cutting-edge software and a digital camera to compare frame options, demonstrate spectacle lens options, and simulate color contact lenses. Dispensers are using iPoint VTO to improve customer satisfaction, create excitement, and increase premium lens sales. Read on to learn more! Virtual Lens CenteriPoint VTO demonstrates how AR coatings remove glare on patients’ lenses, provides a comparative cross section profile of lens materials in both aspheric and spherical design, and reveals the benefits of progressive lenses versus bifocals and trifocals. Color Contact LensesSelling color contact lenses just got easier and quicker! The iPoint VTO system allows patients to see what they look like in a wide variety of color contact lenses in just a few minutes. vFramesvFrames allows iPoint VTO users to access a constantly updated database of frame images, powered by the FRAMES Data database. This feature allows patients to see what they look like in any frame style contained in the database. iPoint VTO makes the dispensing process fun and educational for patients. Patients can’t help but talk about the experience with friends and family, creating the positive word-of-mouth that every practice craves. Practices can use the system to encourage referrals by suggesting customers share their experiences by taking home a printout of their photos or by e-mailing the photos to themselves or their family and friends! iPoint VTO is now available as an add-on module for OfficeMate and ExamWRITER. As an integrated component of OfficeMate, iPoint VTO is the quickest and easiest-to-use VTO system available. I recently went out and purchased the latest and greatest set of carbon fiber composite golf clubs. I expected that the next round of golf I played would be the best round of my life. Not so; instead, I had a harsh reality check. It’s not the clubs that make a difference in my game—it’s the knowledge in knowing how to use them. Recently, or perhaps some time ago, you made the choice to invest in the computerization of your office with OfficeMate and/or ExamWRITER. While practices all differ in how they use their software, they all have one thing in common—the realization that their practice will benefit through computerization. To Our Newer UsersOdds are you haven’t completed your training yet. Maybe you think that you’re too busy to complete your OSSU training or maybe you think that you already feel comfortable with your software. But if you haven’t completed your training, you’re most likely not using your new software to its fullest abilities. So what does this mean? It means that you won’t be able to realize the full features and benefits of your software, many of which compelled you to purchase the software in the first place. To Our Longtime UsersYou’ve used the OfficeMate Suite for years and are comfortable with it. But do you sometimes wish you could do more with it? Are there features that you’d like to use but you are unsure how to use them? Are you or your staff intimidated by other areas of the software that can provide benefits to your practice? It’s not uncommon for longtime users to still have usage questions about the software; however, these questions can be easily answered. Again, here comes the “T” word. Training is going to be your best ally in creating a more efficient, profitable, and productive practice. The Bottom LineTraining, while perhaps perceived as a “necessary evil,” can and will help your practice both in the short and long term. Remember: software is a tool, and like any tool, it can never be best utilized unless you have the training to use it! If you haven’t completed your training, contact us now to schedule appropriate classes—you’ll quickly reap the benefits. Training is one of the best investments you can make in your practice. “Knowledge is Power!” For information on OfficeMate and ExamWRITER training options, contact the OSSU training department at 1.800.269.3666, option 3, or ossu@officemate.net. Every computer consultant has brushed up against many nightmarish incidents of failed backups. Some are cautionary tales of obvious mistakes; some are bizarre; while others leave us scratching our head. The stories always start with "We thought we were backing up our data..." and inevitably end with
The reality is that data loss is common. According to the Intuit 2003 Back-up Study, 75% of small businesses have experienced data loss from hard drive crashes, software failure, and computer viruses and 27% of those who experienced data loss were never able to recover their data. It is critically important that backups are verified to be valid, confirmed to be performed on a regular basis, are stored in a secure location off-site, and come with a proven and tested restoration process. Backing up data over the Internet is ideal as a solution or a supplement to standard backup solutions. iBackup Powered by DataHEALTH is a “worry-free” online data backup solution that we recommend for OfficeMate clients. iBackup is easy—all you need is an Internet connection and a few minutes to set up the backup parameters. You can rest assured that your files are verified to be valid backups and that they are being securely transmitted and stored in a safe location. And if you need to restore data, the process to recover your data is simple and proven to work. Simply click a button and your data is back in the same format that you stored it! More than just peace-of-mind, iBackup Powered by DataHEALTH offers you a fully automated process, instant notification of your backup status, speed, reliability, HIPAA compliance, and pricing at a great value at about a $1 a day. OfficeMate iBackup Powered by DataHEALTH is now offering a free 30-day, obligation-free trial! For more information on this offer and iBackup Powered by DataHEALTH, go to http://www.officemate.net/officemate_va_DataHEALTH.aspx or call Marci Miller at 1.800.269.3666, ext. 5004. David Markle |

Working in partnership with local health professionals and members of the community, ORBIS seeks to improve the quality and availability of eye care services where the need is greatest . A cure is often simple and inexpensive, but in the world’s poorest countries even basic medical help is often out of reach. In some places, there may be only one ophthalmologist for every two million people. At the heart of ORBIS is the world’s only Flying Eye Hospital, a DC-10 aircraft converted into an innovative teaching facility and ophthalmic surgical center. The ORBIS Flying Eye Hospital and its international medical team have conducted treatment programs in more than 80 countries since 1982. Many of the world’s leading surgeons donate their time to perform surgery and teach aboard the aircraft in programs specifically designed to suit the needs of host countries. Marchon Eyewear, Inc., the parent company of OfficeMate Software Solutions, believes in the efforts of ORBIS and supports the program wholeheartedly. This year, Al Berg, Marchon Eyewear’s President and CEO, was the proud recipient of the inaugural ORBIS Blue Sky Award in recognition of his contributions to the eyewear industry and his support of the worldwide ORBIS sight-saving program. Marchon Eyewear proudly supports ORBIS in its quest to eradicate avoidable blindness. The Marchon family of brands, including Calvin Klein, ck, Fendi, Michael Kors, MICHAEL, Nike, Coach, Disney, X-Games, Flexon, Nautica, Oscar de la Renta, and OSCAR also support the ORBIS mission and vision.
