ICD-10 Codes

The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th Revision (ICD-10) is a coding of diseases and signs, symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, social circumstances and external causes of injury or diseases, as classified by the World Health Organization (WHO). The code set allows more than 69,000 different codes and permits tracking of many new diagnoses and procedures, a significant expansion on the 14,000 codes available in ICD-9.

ICD-10-PCS is the new procedure coding system that is being developed as a replacement for ICD-9-CM, Volume 3. ICD-10-CM is the new diagnosis coding system that is being developed as a replacement for ICD-9-CM, Volumes 1 & 2.

Go to the CMS Web site at http://www.cms.hhs.gov/ICD10/ for more information on ICD-10 codes and implementation timetables. In April 2010, CMS released the "ICD-10 Transition: An Introduction" document, which provides an overview of the next generation of coding. The compliance date for implementation of the ICD-10-CM/PCS Coding System was October 1, 2013, for all covered entities. On February 16, 2012, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced their intent to delay the ICD-10 compliance date, although no new official date has been provided.

Eyefinity is aware of the upcoming ICD-10 requirements and is formulating a plan to incorporate the codes into our software programs before the compliance date.
