Dr. Paul Karpecki, Cincinnati Eye Institute

Dr. Karpecki graduated from Indiana University and completed a fellowship in Cornea and Refractive Surgery at Hunkeler Eye Centers in affiliation with the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1994. He currently works at the Cincinnati Eye Institute in Cornea services and Ocular Surface Disease Research.

He has lectured in over 300 symposia covering four continents and is the first optometrist to be invited to the Delphi International Society at Wilmer- John’s Hopkins, which includes the top 25 dry eye experts in the world, and the National Eye Institute’s dry eye committee, a task force established by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to better understand and treat dry eye disease in women.

He is immediate past president of the Optometric Council on Refractive Surgery, the current Chair of the Refractive Surgery Advisory Board to the AOA, and on the Congress Education Committee. A noted educator and author, Dr. Karpecki presently serves on seven professional journal editorial boards.

Dr. Lorie Lippiatt, The Salem Eyecare Center, Inc.

Dr. Lorie Lippiatt is a 1988 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry; she founded the Salem Eyecare Center, Inc., in 1989. Today, the center is a 4,000-square-foot facility that encompasses a complete children’s vision center. Dr. Lippiatt employees an associate optometrist, Dr. Carmela Abraham, who focuses on children’s vision needs. Dr. Lippiatt provides full-scope optometric care, with an emphasis on medical-model optometry.

Dr. Lippiatt implemented OfficeMate software in 1991, including the first edition of Opis-CPR, the original ExamWRITER, shortly thereafter. Since that time, Dr. Lippiatt has been an advocate of electronic medical record development, and a member of the Alpha and Beta testing teams for Eyefinity/OfficeMate, specifically for ExamWRITER. In addition, Dr. Lippiatt conducts onsite training for other doctors incorporating electronic medical records with integrated refractive and retinal equipment. She has also authored several articles in major trade publications relating to medical record technology.

Currently, Dr. Lippiatt consults with OfficeMate Software Solutions, Marco, and EyeMaginations and has helped introduced the concept of the Technology Integrated Practice.

Dr. Lippiatt was nominated in 2006 as one of the “Fifty most influential women in optical” by Vision Monday.

Dr. Kim Castleberry, Plano Eye Associates

Dr. Castleberry is in private group practice, Plano Eye Associates, in Plano, Texas. He serves as a consultant, speaker, and researcher for numerous equipment, contact lens, pharmaceutical, insurance, and software companies. He is a past president of the Texas Optometric Association. He currently serves on the medical review staff for Medicare and has performed hundreds of Medicare audits. Dr. Castleberry has authored more than two dozen articles on practice automation and the technology integrated practice and a speaker at over 1,000 speaking engagements. His practice has been paperless with electronic health records since 1991.

Dr. April Jasper, Advanced Eyecare Specialists

Dr. April Jasper is in private practice, Advanced Eyecare Specialists, in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. She is a past president of the Northwest Florida Optometric Association and is currently chairperson for the Ophthalmic Professionals Committee for the Florida Optometric Association. She is also a Vision Source coadministrator for Southeast Florida. She graduated from Nova Southeastern University with highest honors in 1995 and completed an internship at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute and a residency in Ocular Disease and Hospital based Optometry at the Brockton/West Roxbury Veterans Administration Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. She has lectured in areas of ocular disease, electronic medical record implementation, practice management, and new technology in the optometric practice.

Dr. Jasper’s passion is sharing with her colleagues in an effort to help them become more successful in patient care and personal growth.

Dr. Ryan Wineinger, Wineinger Vision Associates

Dr. Ryan Wineinger received his undergraduate degree from Kansas University. He then graduated from The Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee. After graduation, he went into practice with his father at Wineinger Eyecare. Dr. Wineinger thoroughly enjoys the technological side of optometry and in the past five years has made concentrated efforts to bring in the latest equipment to ensure that his patients are receiving the highest level of comprehensive care possible in regards to their eyesight. He is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Greater Kansas City Optometric Society.

Dr. Michael A. McMann, Medical Director of the McMann Eye Institute

Michael A. McMann, MD, the Medical Director of the McMann Eye Institute, specializes in surgical and medical management of corneal disorders, cataract, and refractive surgery in Ewa Beach, Hawaii.

Dr. McMann has extensive training and experience in cornea and refractive surgery. His surgical and clinical expertise includes advanced techniques for cataract surgery, corneal transplantation surgery, anterior segment reconstruction, and management of corneal and external diseases. Dr. McMann performs refractive surgeries (LASIK, LASEK, PRK, and other surgical correction for refractive purposes, such as post transplantation) as well as intra-corneal ring (INTACS) implantation for keratoconus patients.

Dr. McMann is a graduate of the University of Chicago - Pritzker School of Medicine, and completed Refractive Surgery and Cornea Fellowship Training at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. Dr. McMann is board certified and has been practicing ophthalmology for over 10 years, and spent eight years as an active duty US Army physician and eye surgeon. He has performed LASIK on over 20 fellow physicians and is regarded as the trusted choice for laser vision correction among his colleagues, and has performed over 2000 refractive surgery procedures on military personnel.
